In Necklaces
I make the papier-mâché elements of this necklace by hand in my workshop in Glyfada, Athens.
I use ready-made papier-mâché pulp purchased from craft suppliers in Greece. I shape each piece by hand around an internal wire structure and leave it to dry naturally. After drying, I smooth the surface where needed and paint each piece by hand with acrylic colours.
For this necklace I use turquoise, gold, red, sky blue and navy blue details. The papier-mâché elements are finished with a matte varnish.
I assemble the handmade pieces with purchased turquoise glass beads, gold-tone metal findings and an extension chain.
Because every papier-mâché element is shaped and painted by hand, small differences in shape and brushwork are natural.
The necklace is approximately 47 cm long, with a 7 cm extension chain.
