What packaging can I use as a maker?

Plain boxes, branded packaging and where to buy it, PFAS limits on food-contact packaging, and how to describe packaging in a listing without making a claim you cannot back.

Checked against the national sources on 2026-08-04.

Can I use my own branded packaging as a small maker?

Yes, but buy it from a supplier inside the EU. Micro-enterprises having packaging made under their own name are covered by an exemption that places the technical obligations on the supplier. Ordering branded packaging from outside the EU moves those obligations onto you, including technical documentation and a declaration of conformity.

Does a shipping label with my name on it count as branding?

No. A shipping label is not branding and does not make you the manufacturer of the packaging. The question is whether the packaging itself carries your name or trademark.

Which handmade products count as food-contact packaging for PFAS?

Anything where the packaging touches something edible or applied to skin: honey, jam, chocolate, tea, spices, baked goods, beeswax wraps and greaseproof paper. Packaging filled after 12 August 2026 must comply with the PFAS limits, with no sell-through period for old stock.
